Depression Grand Challenge

The UCLA Depression Grand Challenge was one of twelve organizations selected as a performer for the Wellcome-Leap Multi-Channel Psych program. The program aims to develop better understanding about anhedonic depression, a severe and inhibitive kind of depression which affects the ability to feel pleasure or enjoyment.

Discover Magazine’s Nov. 2019 issue highlighted the Depression Grand Challenge’s efforts to understand the genetic and environmental causes of depression, and mentioned the STAND system of care.

Nelson Freimer, director of the Depression Grand Challenge, was interviewed in a UCLA Newsroom article about findings from a study published in Nature he co-led with researchers from UCLA, in collaboration with Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis; the University of Michigan and 18 other institutions.
