DGC-affiliated researcher Kunmi Sobowale, MD, was awarded funding from the National Institutes of Health to support his research on early childhood and parental mental health.
Sobowale received a selective “K” award, which is designed to support early career researchers as they develop independent research careers in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences.
Sobowale will use the funding for the Maternal-Child Interaction Study, a study supported by the DGC and led by Sobowale as principal investigator. The study will leverage digital sensors to capture parent-child interactions in real-world contexts, with the goal of better understanding how postpartum depression affects the parent-child relationship and the child’s development.
The Maternal-Child Interaction Study is housed in the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA with research coordination support provided by the DGC clinical study management team.
