Researchers from the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge, UCLA Center for Neurobehavioral Genetics, and Taiwan National Science and Technology Council convened to discuss UCLA models and best practices for interdisciplinary research.
Researchers from the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge and the UCLA Center for Neurobehavioral Genetics welcomed a delegation from Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council to UCLA on Aug. 27 for a site visit focused on learning about UCLA models and best practices for interdisciplinary research.
The meeting featured a series of presentations from members of the delegation and UCLA researchers, followed by discussion. Members of the delegation gave short overviews of their work, and DGC and CNG experts presented on their own work and approaches to interdisciplinary research. DGC team members participating in the visit included DGC Director Nelson Freimer, DGC Co-Directors Jonathan Flint and Michelle Craske, and DGC researcher Loes Olde Loohuis.
The delegation’s UCLA visit was part of their broader tour of California research institutions intended to learn from different approaches to organizing and conducting interdisciplinary research as Taiwan develops its own efforts, while also exploring future opportunities for international collaboration.
The UCLA Center for Neurobehavioral Genetics is a research center directed by Nelson Freimer. CNG researchfocuses on discovering the genetic basis of major psychiatric and neurological disorders, and genetically dissecting additional traits that will shed light on the development, function, or degeneration of the central nervous system.
