Research Study: Calming Minds

Summary

The Calming Minds project is a large-scale research effort investigating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and overthinking, worry and rumination, collectively called repetitive negative thoughts, or RNT. 

Primary Goal

To investigate which cognitive behavioral therapy strategies and delivery sequence are most effective in reducing overthinking, worry and rumination.

Anticipated Duration

The project began in January 2024 and is expected to continue through December 2029, with the clinical trial expected to start in winter 2026 and continue through summer 2027.

Number of Participants

UCLA expects to recruit 500 students from Imperial Valley College. The other sites, based in the UK, expect to recruit approximately 1,700 students.
