DGC Co-Director Michelle Craske speaks on expert panel for NIMH Capitol Hill event

UCLA Depression Grand Challenge Co-Director Michelle Craske, PhD, spoke on an expert panel about mental health research on May 2, 2024, on Capitol Hill.

The panel was part of a Capitol Hill event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the National Institute of Mental Health; the event was hosted by Friends of NIMH and the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus. Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar and NIMH Director Joshua Gordon gave opening remarks, and Jim Diaz-Granados, deputy CEO of the American Psychological Association, served as master of ceremonies. In attendance were congressional staff, mental health advocates from the Friends of NIMH and senior staff from the National Institutes of Health and NIMH.

On the panel, Craske was joined by Gordon and Robert Kolker, journalist and author of the non-fiction book “Hidden Valley Road,” about the Galvin family. The three panelists discussed the long-term evolution of mental health research from leaps in scientific innovation to shifts in prevention and treatment approaches, as well as broader impacts catalyzed by mental health research generally.
